Hello & Welcome...

Hi there, my name is Rebekah Sunshine & I set up The Wooden Box Gallery to help support amateur, student & outsider artists as well as hosting Open Call themed shows on on interesting, unusual & relatable topics.

Even as a child, I wanted to be an artist, often skipping school to visit the City Art Gallery in Southampton. When the staff chased me out, I'd hide in the library next door, immersing myself in art books, I found inspiration and a sense of belonging in the lives and works of famous artists.

Despite my passion and dedication, I never thought it would be possible that I could fully be the artist I always wanted to be, let alone own the Gallery that I yearned for as a lost 13-year-old.

It's a long story with many twists & turns, but I never gave up hope, taking jobs that allowed me time & money to continue making art. Finally at age 50 I was able to become the full time Artist I always wanted to be! Now, with the gallery, I hope to extend that opportunity to others who also are on their own creative journey.

It has been an exciting 2 year rollercoaster which has included opening a Community Coffee Shop, working with schools & groups, being part of the High St Regeneration & now new for 2024 we are opening a new Framing Business to further bring life to Ramsgate's upper High Street.
