Dead Good Artists A4 poster v_edited_edi

Their work, Your story.

CALL FOR ARTISTS (family or friends of the artist) - we are proud to be working in collaboration with The Pilgrims Hospice Compassionate Communities Team in exhibiting the artworks of artists who have passed away.

Over the last 3 years of the gallery being open, we have had many requests from family & friends whether we can exhibit, store or sell artworks that have been left by artists after they have died. It is always evident from these conversations that the person who has bravely ventured into the gallery to ask about the possibilities, feels not only a sense of pride but also a huge sense of responsibility to the artist & their creations; they want their talents & ideas to still be appreciated & seen by the world.

The importance of this poignant custodianship was made all the more real for us when a dear friend of the gallery died suddenly, himself leaving behind a large number of paintings. To celebrate his life & work, we at the gallery decided to exhibit some of his work and were keen to widen the opportunity so that others can also share in the discussion and celebration of passed artists. We contacted the Pilgrims Compassionate Communities Team, inviting them to share the opportunity to their wider network and not only showcase the artwork but also hold free informal workshops/discussion groups for friends & families to discuss & share their stories about their artist, what it meant for them to be left the work & plans for the future. These sessions will be facilitated by staff from the Pilgrims Compassionate Communities Team.

The exhibition will run from 1st - 26th April 2025, with invitations for online submissions open from Jan 3rd - 28th Feb. You are also welcome to pop into the gallery to ask for a chat & collect an application form in person. (Please make sure you check our winter opening hours before travelling, so that we do not miss you).

Please share this info to anyone you think may benefit from this exhibition or the workshops.
